Nam Sang Wai
In this workshop, Nam Sang Wai, an area adjacent to the Mai Po Nature Reserve and a key wintering location for many migrating species. Students learn skills in wildlife observation, including learning techniques for species identification in the field, particularly focusing on birds. We also learn about environmental issues in Hong Kong, and the difficulty in balancing development with the conservation of local species and habitats.
Urban Ecology - Hong Kong Park
Despite being a highly urbanized city, Hong Kong still harbors high levels of diversity, even within the city center. In this workshop, students conduct biodiversity surveys in Hong Kong's urban parks, and discover biodiversity right in the center of everything. Students are introduced to the field of Urban Ecology, and we discuss how cities can be developed to maintain high levels fo biodiversity.
Urban Ecology and Conservation
Mai Po Nature Reserve
Although Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, the city is also home to a remarkable diversity of wildlife and ecosystems. In this workshop,
students visit Mai Po Nature Reserve to learn about the many species that live in Hong Kong. Students have the opportunity to learn skills in wildlife observation, including learning techniques for species identification in the field, particularly focusing on birds and
butterflies. After participating in this workshop, students will have gained a deeper knowledge of the species we share
this city with, be able to identify species, and understand how having basic ecological knowledge can help us to design our cities to make sure that we conserve and protect
